Pole Lessons and Coaching

With a Masters in Kinesiology and years of experience in physical fitness training and pole instruction, Matt knows the human body’s capabilities and limitations. He has worked with people of all ages and physical abilities. His education, background and experience make him the ideal choice as an instructor whether you are just beginning or an advanced pole student. He will help you achieve your goals and have lots of fun doing it.

Why take lessons from Matt?

It is my love and passion for pole that I try to transmit to my students through teaching, and my number one goal is for my students to have fun regardless of the level. If students have a gratifying experience and enjoy the challenge, they are more likely to keep at it, and all of the positive physical and psychological changes from this activity come naturally. I am known to be extremely patient, and a huge priority for me is using my own understanding of movement to teach skills in a way that is explained simply, sequentially, and in a safe manner so that students understand why skills work (or not work) and never feel overwhelmed. I am good at making an assessment of your current capabilities, and guiding you based on this. I always try to end training so that you leave with a sense of accomplishment. While technical teaching is my forte, I highly encourage students to put their own unique flare on their learned elements and make it their own - the exploration of pole as an art is such a big part of it’s beauty. Especially with my classes at La Chrome Barre, where the maximum class size is capped at 4 people, I am able to offer extremely good value to students compared to classes at other studios that can have 10 + students in a class. I have more time to explain, spot, and cater to my students’ unique goals - all of this while keeping the price-point of classes affordable. I am a huge advocate of making pole accessible, which is extremely important because of the way it changes people physically and psychologically for the better. Currently, I am teaching students at La Chrome Barre, and as of January 2024, I will also be teaching pole and flying pole at L’Academie de Cirque- a brand-new, multi-disciplinary circus facility in Montreal’s east end. Let me help you start (or continue), your own pole journey and see where it takes you!

Where Are Lessons Held?

Lessons are offered at La Chrome Barre pole studio, one of Montreal’s newest and most attractive boutique facilities. It is conveniently located 5 minutes from Metro Prefontaine (Green Line) at 2019 Rue Moreau, Montreal, Quebec. It is an intimate space created by pole dancers for pole dancers, with two professional grade X-poles, 12 foot ceilings, and a calm, quiet and clean ambiance. The space is available for rent at very affordable prices, 365 days a year between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. for training, teaching or creative projects. Its privacy allows for an ideal setting for one-on-one and small group classes. Lessons can also be arranged at your home, or outdoors if weather permits.

Workshops

Matt has conducted workshops in Montreal and as far away as Las Vegas. Workshops – pricing depends on the length of the workshop, number of participants and location. Contact Matt to discuss the location and rates.

My Approach to Coaching

My love for pole combined with my understanding of human movement from my prior academic and professional lives were an ideal combination when I began teaching pole. I love to see my students connect with their bodies, gaining strength, skill and, above all, confidence in their own pole journeys. As I taught more, I uncovered my own strength as a technical coach: being able to break down the mechanics of complex skills and explain them in such a way that students are able to accomplish them faster. I also see how pole really instills a great deal of confidence and self-efficacy in my students that extends beyond the walls of the studio and into their lives. Most of all, I always ensure that at the end of the day, whether new skills are unlocked or not, that my students have had fun. The exhilaration and organic joy of spinning around this piece of metal is a feeling that is very unique to pole dancing and one that is over and above almost any other physical pursuit I have tried, and when I see that in the faces of my students it is extremely fulfilling, regardless of their level.
